UTM Link Builder — Campaign Tracking Links, Correctly Formatted
Assemble Google Analytics 4 UTM parameters without guessing the format — every field validated, encoded and ready to copy.
UTM Link Builder
Campaign tracking links, the right way
How to build a UTM link (3 steps)
- Paste the destination URL — the page the link should land on, without any tracking parameters already attached (this builder will not guess at existing ones; clean the URL first).
- Fill the parameters. utm_source (where it lives — newsletter, a specific profile, a billboard) and utm_medium (the channel — email, social, cpc) are the two fields Google Analytics needs to attribute the visit; campaign, term and content are for your own slicing.
- Build, copy, paste it where the link runs. Every copy of that link — in the email, on the profile, in the ad — must be identical, or your reports will split one campaign across mismatched labels.
The five parameters, in one breath
utm_source answers "which place sent the visitor" — use the channel plus the property, like newsletter or instagram, consistently. utm_medium answers "what kind of channel" — email, social, cpc, referral. utm_campaign is the name of the push itself, the label you will sort by in the report. utm_term is reserved for paid-search keywords, and utm_content distinguishes variants within the same placement — the two versions of a banner, the header link versus the footer link. Pick a spelling convention once (lowercase-hyphen is the usual choice) and never deviate: analytics reports group by the exact string, so "Black-Friday" and "black-friday" are two different campaigns to the dashboard.
Where UTM links usually go wrong
- Spaces and mixed case — the builder encodes values for you, which is why "Black Friday" becomes
black-fridayorBlack%20Fridayinstead of a broken query string. - Duplicated parameters — appending a second set of UTMs to an already-tagged URL silently overrides the first; always start from the clean destination.
- Label drift over months — three team members, three spellings of the same campaign. The fix is a one-page naming convention shared by the team, not more software.
Privacy note
The link is assembled in your browser from the five fields; no request goes out and no click pattern is collected. You are free to paste internal campaign URLs and unreleased landing pages — the only thing that "leaves" this tab is the text you copy.
