Text to Speech
Built-in browser voices — nothing uploaded
Voices come from your device (Chrome, Edge, Safari and OS installs) — more voices are available on some systems. No text or audio ever leaves your browser.
How to use text to speech (3 steps)
- Paste the text. An essay to proof, a script to rehearse, or a long article you want to listen to on a walk.
- Pick a voice and tune it. Choose from every voice your browser and operating system provide, then adjust speed (0.5–2×) for faster listening or a slower read, and pitch for a different feel.
- Press Speak. The text is read locally by the speech engine built into your browser — press Stop any time.
Why "local" matters for a voice tool
Most TTS websites record your text and send it to a cloud neural-voice API — you get a prettier voice, and they get a copy of whatever you pasted, often against their own data policy. The SpeechSynthesis engine already in your browser trades a little polish for total privacy: the sentence never crosses a socket, nothing is recorded to a file, and it works offline after the page loads. That makes it the right tool for confidential briefs, client copy, and anything you would not want in a third party's logs.
FAQ
- Why are there so few voices? The voice list is your system's list — install more voices in your OS settings and they appear here automatically.
- Does it work offline? Yes, once the page is loaded — the engine is part of the browser, not a web service.
- Is my text uploaded or stored? No — the text is read by the local speech engine and is never transmitted anywhere.
