Title & Meta Length Checker
Will Google show it in full? Find out before you publish
How to check title & meta lengths (3 steps)
- Paste your title. The checker counts characters live. Aim for 30–60 characters — Google typically truncates desktop titles around 580 pixels (roughly 60–65 characters depending on letter width).
- Paste your meta description. The sweet spot is 120–160 characters. Google shows about two lines on desktop, which cuts off around 155–160 characters, so anything longer risks ending mid-sentence.
- Read the verdicts. Green means you are inside the safe zone. Orange means close — a few words over. Red means Google will almost certainly truncate it. The preview below shows exactly how your listing will look.
Why length actually matters
Google does not punish long titles — it simply cuts them off. A truncated title can hide your keyword or your brand, and a cut-off meta description ends before your call to action. Both reduce click-through rate from search, and CTR is the cheapest ranking signal you can influence directly. The pixel estimate is approximate (Google uses its own font metrics), but character ranges are the standard, reliable rule of thumb used by SEO teams.
Who needs this
Content writers before publishing, developers shipping new pages, and site owners auditing existing listings in Search Console (any "truncated" impression is a candidate to re-test here).
FAQ
- Is there a maximum title length? No hard limit — but beyond ~65 characters Google will usually truncate on desktop.
- What about mobile? Mobile shows slightly less (~120 chars for meta). If you pass the desktop range you are almost safe on mobile too; if you are over, you will definitely be cut on mobile.
- Is my text uploaded anywhere? No. Everything runs in your browser — paste sensitive draft copy with confidence.
