Unsharp-mask enhancement — 100% local
How to sharpen an image (3 steps)
- Pick your image. Soft phone photos, downscaled screenshots, and lightly over-compressed JPGs all benefit.
- Set the strength. Start at 50% and compare against the original in another tab. 20–40% is usually enough; above 70% you start seeing halos around edges, so less is more.
- Download. The enhanced image saves at original resolution.
How the sharpening works
This is a classic unsharp-mask: each pixel is pushed away from the average of its 8 neighbours using a 3×3 convolution kernel, which amplifies edges without changing flat areas. It cannot resurrect a heavily blurred photo — physics did not keep those pixels — but it noticeably crisps the millions of "slightly soft" images that phone cameras and web compression produce daily. All of it runs on your device, on your pixels, with no round trip to a server.
FAQ
- Can it fully fix a very blurry photo? No tool can invent detail that was never captured; this fixes softness and mild compression blur, which is the common case.
- What are the halos I see at high strength? Over-sharpening overshoots edges — drop the slider until edges look natural.
- Is my image uploaded? No — the convolution runs in your browser.
